- Changes in sleep patterns
- Neglect of personal appearance
- Sudden mood changes
- Reckless behavior
- Giving away belongings
- Talking about death or suicide
- Acquiring a weapon or lethal means for suicide
- Self-harm actions
What can I do if someone I know is showing one or more of these warning signs?
- Talk to them. It is a myth that talking about suicide will “put the idea in their head.”
- Talk to a trusted adult.
- Call your local crisis line.
- Get the person help, like a therapist or school counselor.
- Encourage the person to reach out to professional counseling services or a crisis line.
